8 working days to go

today is the second last saturday that i will work.  i'm going around to an old neighbour's house after work to try and set up her ebook library on her computer.  she gave me her kobo last week and i've set that up.  she's in her late 70's so well done to her.  i love it when seniors tangle with technology.  years ago i used to teach basic computing and internet to library patron's which was at times trying indeed.  when someone has never held a mouse it's difficult to get past that.  we used to tell them to play computer solitaire to get some mouse skills.  it works.  i'm not really into it now and most of our customers these days don't speak much english.  we have two volunteers who take the classes now and although i've thought of returning to volunteer at the library i do not want to take back this task.

  1. It takes much patience to deal with seniors and their computer problems. I know because of the many times my son rolls his eyes when I ask him for computer help.

  3. Retirement is drawing near then :)
Great that you are doing Kobo etc. for your neighbour.
Do you know I help people in my spare time (friends) with their computers and most of them are younger than I am. I have never had a lesson in my life, have no idea about any of it but of course I read and retained it....and it just evolved.

    1. hi M, the kobo is to be used for reading ebooks from the library. it's been a complicated exercise. i've been having a few problems with it. the kobo itself is not the problem. ahhh it will work out i'm sure. it's funny what we retain and what we forget. we all have different skills

    2. I have heard of the Kobo. I myself have a Kindle eReader and love it, all books kept in one place now with backup.
Yes we do all have different skills... I love technology.

  4. Have either of you thought of volunteering to take classes at U3A. There is sure to be one near you. They would love to have someone with computer skills. I did photography for 4 years but I'm stepping back next year and just helping out.

  6. I agree. My grandmother started to use a computer and it was adorable. She was so happy every time she accomplished something. It was really adorable.
