the fro is gone

temporarily i hope. my son straightened my hair today and i think i made the wrong decision. i wanted a change you see. i have a big birthday coming up and i'm going through my second or maybe third midlife crisis. it's flat as a tack. no really it is. imagine a head full of unruly curls needing a hair cut and now it's very flat and almost straight. there's still a bit of a kink/wave. sort of. you should have seen us. my friend diana told me to put flour in the mix and as she's a hairdresser i did. omg. what a mess. stuff went on ok and sort of dried into a hard shiny helmet. then to wash that off and neutralize. more rinsing and then leave on 'curl enhancer'. yucky stuff. it was in a glass vial so imagine what was in that. we nearly passed out from the fumes of the first mix so had to go outside. this afternoon i got it cut and at a new hairdresser to boot. he's vietnamese and was really very good except that he used those thinning scissor things at the end and the last time i had that done it was a disaster. when i was a teenager in the swinging 60s i always wanted long, blonde, straight hair like mary travers from peter, paul and mary. they were very big in the 60s, trust me. of course i have short, dark and curly hair. why do we always want what we can not have and/or do not have? oh well, at least it will grow out. I HOPE!!!!

  1. Yeah it will grow out in time and it just seems human nature to want what we don't have so you are not alone there.

  2. I have always been grateful for my straight hair although I now find curls in the wrong places. Have not yet used my expensive straightener.
    Sure you look beautiful...

  3. Chez, beautiful no, different yes. :) Jo-Anne, of course we want what we don't have, as you say, it's human nature. my friend gave me a straightener ages ago but i'm not good at using it and i'm scared of burning my scalp or hands. i'm not good at hair. i can't put rollers and i can't braid my grand daughter's lovely blonde, long, staight hair. ahhhhhhhhhh Fran

  4. hair is an important part of a woman's identity it symbolizes so much....I had a friend over last night she was actually crying because a hairdresser cut her hair all off..it was a brutal do! I understand the curly girl thing...I have the hair nana's love...but it ain't cool to my peers!! straightening is an addiction for me...hope you feel more comfortable with the new look now..and as you said at least it grows..wild for us curly Chickie's!

  5. As females we are never completely happy with what we have ....
My sister (one of many) has the most glorious head of curls...It`s like permed without the perm....Well she has her hair professionally straightened....Me on the other hand who has dead straight her has to pay for those same curls...Crazy hey...lol
I`m with Chez i`m sure you look gorgeous...It just takes a while to get used to the "new you",...

  7. I wonder why we do it...last week sat through tortured time and is very very difficult for me as will not look in the mirror....and hairdressers have mirrors everywhere.....I have this picture of myself and like to live with the myth as even catching a glimpse of my mug go into depression for days...not to mention the hair am growing blonder as I get older...used to be a brunette...

Managed to get the hairdressers going last time I was there playing silly buggers, even shut the front door and took their photographs...now that was hard as had to look about with the camera still avoiding the mirrors. The bathroom mirror I turn on the taps and steam it up and then look and think OK not so bad peering through the mist.... A change is good.....
